1st International ABWET conference : Waste-to-Bioenergy : Applications to Urban Areas

 

This conference aims to provide an overview on the potential of urban organic waste for bioenergy production to serve the heat and power demand in urban areas and to be integrated into existing energy and urban infrastructures (e.g. gas grid).

For this purpose, both the analysis of biomass resources, processing and conversion technologies suitable for urban energy systems, and the assessment of existing case studies of integration of bioenergy to serve heat/cool and electricity demand for urban areas will be used to capture the technical and non-technical key factors. These latter are known to influence the use of biomass in residential areas, and impact the most promising bioenergy routes for these applications.

 

Participants from academia and industry are invited to discuss recent scientific advances in the field. Through sessions with keynote lecture from internationally renowned leaders in their field and selected abstract presentations from conference attendants, the program will promote discussions on recent scientific advances.

This conference is organized in the frame of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie European Joint Doctorate in Advanced Biological Waste-to-Energy Technologies (ABWET).

  • Anaerobic digestion technologies (reactor configuration, process control and modelling, microbial diversity, reactor optimization)
  • Heat and energy production (co-generation)
  • Biogas cleaning (H2S and CO2 removal, siloxane removal)
  • Biomethane injection in natural gas network 
  • Bioenergy technology co-products : e.g. solid digestates and liquid digester effluents (valorization and reuse), biochar
